A guide to choosing vitamins for energy support.

Vitamins for Energy

The B group vitamins play an essential role in the metabolic processes of all living cells and serve as coenzymes in the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fats to produce energy.

Because these eight vitamins affect such important elements of your body, some professionals suggest that a supplement that combines all of the B vitamins in a single daily supplement may be of benefit.

The following vitamins are important for the production of energy in our bodies. If dietary intake is inadequate, supplementation may be of benefit:

  • Vitamin B1
  • Vitamin B2
  • B3
  • B5
  • B6
  • B12
  • Biotin

Vitamin B1 (Thiamin)

Vitamin B1 helps the body turn carbohydrates into energy. It also helps your body metabolize proteins and fats.

The recommended daily dosage of Vitamin B1 is 1.4mg

Vitamin B2 (Ribofiavin)

Vitamin B2 is important to complete several reactions in the energy cycle. Common symptoms of vitamin B2 deficiency includes reddening of the lips with cracks at the corners of the mouth, inflammation of the tongue, and a greasy, scaly inflammation of the skin.

The recommended daily dosage of Vitamin B2 is 1.6mg

Vitamin B3 (Niacin)

Vitamin B3 is necessary for the body's production of energy.

The recommended daily dosage of Vitamin B3 is 19mg

Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid)

Vitamin B5 is also vital for the production of energy.

The recommended daily dosage of Vitamin B5 is 6mg

Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine)

Vitamin B6 helps us metabolize carbohydrates. It is a coenzyme for several enzyme systems involved in the metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats.

The recommended daily dosage of Vitamin B6 is 2mg

Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin)

Vitamin B12 helps the development of our red blood cells. It's a complex crystalline compound that functions in all cells

The recommended daily dosage of Vitamin B12 is 6ug

Biotin

Biotin is a water-soluble vitamin that helps the cells metabolise protein, fat and carbohydrates and produce energy.

The recommended daily dosage of Biotin is 30µg
